The article that accompanied this picture is quite interesting. Apparently the Ronnie and Reggie Kray, were successful young business men, who were looking for an outlet for their sporting and colourful personalities. One Saturday afternoon Ronnie or Reggie happened to turn on the t.v. and there’ in all their glory were the Borg twins, Tony and Iggy doing their ‘thing’. The bros quickly decided the mat game was for them, but they wanted to start at the top, not to have to work their way up. They had money, so they decided an all encompassing marketing promotion was the way to go. After admiring themselves in the mirrors dotted around their sumptuous Mayfair abode, they felt satisfied they had all the right equipment for a quick entry into the Dale Martin Talent agency and so they next booked an afternoon with a professional photographer. The boys eagerly stripped to their underwear and asked provocatively ‘how would you like us’ to the snapper who found the boys to be natural ‘poseurs’. However there was a slight problem, as both boys had badly bruised knuckles, apparently acquired when both lads had bumped into the same door. Deciding he wasn’t prepared to compromise neither his photography or the Kray’s fine bodies, the snapper looked around his studio for inspiration, eventually his gaze falling on the gloves in the photo shown here. The boys, too excited with the thought of the five thousand pounds worth of photos that would soon be displayed all over London, only realized after the event, that they had somewhat ‘shot’ themselves in the foot, or feet, when the very large bundle of ‘eight by fours’ landed on their desk some days later. Being the whip-smart guys they were, they decided to forget the wrestling game and enter professional boxing instead.
The Kray Brothers never made it big in the fistic art and there is little trace of them in the ensuing years, although their last successful venture appears to have been in the motor industry, where records show they apparently traded under the banner
‘IN-CAR-CERATION’.
To everyone of the Heritage members and their family, STAY SAFE! Cheers, John.
Hi Adrian. I thought Tony was a very competent worker, it would be great to hear from his daughter more about her dad. I’d also like someone to knock on the doors of the sons of Ricki Starr and Mick McM. but I believe I raised that forlorn hope before (a couple of times).
