In the Butcher Bond v Super Destroyer bout that Peter kindly flagged up for us, I was intrigued by the commentator's mention of The Queen of Clamart, who was seated ringside and had her moment of glory:
This was so like The Duchess Pandora who was a regular ringsider at Croydon and elsewhere around the same time, late seventies. Clamart seems to be a fair equivalent to Croydon, in southern Paris suburbs; and still an important wrestling venue ten years later, as can be seen on the internet.
The Queen of Clamart applauds every move enthusiastically, even when Judo Pete exits over the top rope.
The commentator chooses not to mention that there is a second Queen seated to the other side of him.
All this makes me to wonder whether the Londoners brought a couple of girls along for the gig, and invited them to get involved in the occasion like the Croydon Duchess? The fact that the Queen above applauds Bond so vigorously tells me that she was perhaps his "one" whilst Judo Pete's was snubbed.
Intriguingly, in the following bout on the same reel, they have switched seats and the two Queens are next to each other, nattering away. A case of Job Done?
Maybe the commentator decided to ignore the second Queen once the MC decided to introduce Bond as an American, and it wouldn't have made political sense?
This is only a very minor oddity but I am intrigued to know who copied who here.
We know also in the UK that The late Queen was a Bond fan and not averse to appearing with him; maybe once again the wrestlers had set the precedent!
Quite a remarkable observation Anglo and in wrestling as we know , anything is possible.
