Apart from Daddy, Billy Howes and a few others illegally ripping it off (and a few bouts in Scotland and Spain moonlighting as "Paul Dillon") he was in the hood constantly 1964-1977.
That was May 1979 with Murray Davies, a rare moment when the mask came off publicly

I think that is actually about 13 years AFTER the hood, when he did his Daily Mirror exposé.
He was then back in the mask the following year only to unmask officially at Christmas.
