In the Early 1950's-BRITISH Rings saw a Skilful Crop of Talented WELTERWEIGHTS-
probably the first to spring to mind being ALAN COLBECK!
But there was another Young Wrestler from SCOTLAND Who was Fighting on a very
regular basis SOUTH of the Border and he was so Good at his Game that he went on to
Deprive COLBECK of his BRITISH WELTERWEIGHT Title!
TONY LAWRENCE was a Fast and Classy Wrestler and his Best 2 Successful Years at
the very Top of the Sport proved to be 1952 and 1953!
So below I Share some of my Programmes and Handbills Featuring TONY at his Peak!...
Starting with his 'Cover Boy' Debut on SPIDER MASCALL's MAT REVIEW!!

Great stuff MM, thanks for sharing. That era is of particular interest to me. Was talking with Dave C on the weekend and he mentioned that in the 60's Tony regularly drove the buses for Dale Martin.
Hi Mm. Norman Walsh was British and European Lightheavyweight (Cruiser)
champion before putting on more weight and at one time holding all 3 Midheavyweight titles.
Geoff Portz was always billed as being from South Africa at Newcastle while I was there.
I didn't know that he was British until I joined this site.
So much to difgest as ever, Main Mask.
I have the impression that the Kwango brothers on the same bill is a rarity...?
Like the Szakacs brothers.
Next TONY in 1953 against GEORGE GOLDIE!- Billed from NEWCASTLE-
LAWRENCE 'has Exceptional Ability'!!
