A one fall encounter from “World Of Sport” has appeared on Youtube between Mark Rocco and Steve Veidor. Billed from September 1977, a young Mark Rocco, the newly crowned British Heavy Middleweight Champion appears facing his heavyweight opponent minus his usual moustache and wearing all yellow.
I can recall a World Of Sport contest featuring a Rocco .v. Jones encounter which didn’t appear on the Wrestling Channel where Rocco wore the same strip. A copy of this contest was up for auction on Ebay a number of years ago. The seller was asking £500!
Happy memories indeed. Th Picketts Lock Centre was my local, but is now no more, the old site was puled down and turned into a car par. In the land adjacent to where the old site was, they have now built a multiplex cinema and a new sports centre with a swimming pool, and is now called the Lea Valley Leisure Centre.
Still a bit naughty of DMs to present KUNG FU in big letters and Fighter squashed in underneath; certainly trying to capitalise on the tv star.
An early outing for Roberts and Bridges in their feud.
Some new stuff .Recently Gordon Corbett and Dick Conlon matches
Yes that's the bout! You can go straight to the following Youtube member's site (psxgunman) and he's edited the recording to the Rocco/Veidor bout only. The same person uploaded the excellent quality Nagasaki/Haystacks bout also from 1977. Perhaps from their personal collection ????????
Who was the Kung Fu Fighter ? Pete Roberts ? Looked like a great bill !
Re the 500 quid match: I think we discussed this some time ago. If memory serves, it was a film reel with the "ITC" branding that Lew Grade used on TV series sold internationally. It was believed that it was originally intended for export to the Middle East.
https://youtu.be/MdTf4aDDw5o I am presuming this is the match you're referring to? I shall watch with interest. Thank you for drawing it to our attention.
Yet Another Example of ROCCO Taking-On a Much Heavier Opponent!!
In this Case-STEVE VEIDOR!
Here's the Same Contest at SOUTHEND-ON-SEA!
