Thanks to Ost, we know that Vrystaat was Frikki Alberta. Why Vrystaat? What does Vrystaat mean?
“interjection Used as an (often ironical) exclamation of exaltation, triumph, approbation, or encouragement; a rallying call. Hence Vrystaat noun, a cry of ‘Vrystaat!’; attributive, enthusiastically South African”
It’s a rallying call !
I’ve included the Vrystaat poster, a because I like it, b because it also heralds Con Tolios. Con was a good Australian-Greek, maybe Greek-Australian, wrestler, who initially was used as cannon-fodder for the various overseas heels, during the Jim Barnet days. Some of Con’s bouts would be over in the blink of an eye. However later on when it was eventually recognised that the Aussie wrestlers, although usually outgunned in the weight department, could actually carry their end in a match, they were allowed longer matches and more of the offense. Sometimes, four Aussies would even be given a television tag match to round off the one hour show. Con had a very good drop-kick and long before Bret Hart utilized it, Con would have himself in a back hammer, his opponent would push him and Con would take off like an Olympic sprinter and hurl himself, chest first into the corner buckle. This would occur at least three times in a bout, sometimes three times consecutively. I believed I winced each time!
Libnan Ayoub has a French poster where Con’s name appears as he and a couple of other Aussies wrestled there.
Notice a certain Mel Kerk. From Britian.
