Compiling my list of fitty greats, I realised I was considering a very small Welsh pool of wrestlers. I'd like to see a more complete list.
I can come up with:
Al "Buster" Martin
Adrian Street Esq.
Johnny Williams
Killer Ken Davies
Orig Williams
Tony Charles
Johnny Yearsley
Were there many more?
Not sure what to do with Gwyn Davies?
All that lovely serious build up falls flat with the awful use of 6 wrestlers in a KO tourney. Dale Martins did that a lot, it sucked. The northern promoters were usually too wise to follow suit. 4 or 8 ... but no, not 6. Aaaargh!
Or maybe this card is part of a bigger picture and I am misreading it?
Hello Everyone! Russian Concussion is BACK!!! And back with the BELT of course !!! Here's a question to everyone who's into Welsh Wrestlers Glory and pro wrestling memorabilia stuff...WHICH BELT WAS IT (photo would be very helpful)??? Details see below.
Attached the programme as well just to make sure we know - there was a BELT involved.
Don't forget Sandy Orford's son Tony
Tony Prince, and Barry Johns feature in a great late 80’s bout for Orig Williams Reslo. Fantastic bout with two superb wrestlers. Available to watch on YouTube.
Picture from his junior rugby days.
kdmctiffin, have you seen this?

Great find, Ron.
But from KD's words, probably not Gwyn's first bout as Viedor wouldn't have ventured that far in the late seventies. I wonder which venue it was, and in what way Viedor was so good to Gwyn.
Probably not many bills about as early as this one.
Oh great, sounds like your mum followed his wrestling career to some extent.
Absolute top wrestler, Gwyn Davies, multiple champion of Britain and a great link between the pre-tv days of Assirati and The Ghoul, all the way through to his wonderful seventies bouts and especially his Albert Hall match with Steve Viedor that we can still see on Youtube today.
I'm sure a lot of our Members on here would love to know about Gwyn's early years and those fifties matches. Have you got any recollections you can share witn us, KD?
PS: I hope you noticed we have your grandfather on the list without any query!
Thank you for that confirmation KD, I'll remove the doubt from the list above on your good word.
Gwyn Davies has been a big favourite on here for years and I am sure we all send him our best wishes. Can you do us the favour of checking something out with him that happened in Bradford in 1965. He wrestled Alan Garfield in what would prove to be Garfield's final tv appearance. Legend has it that Garfield was banned after that bout by commentator Kent Walton. Can your dad shed any light as to what happened in that Bradford bout?
My father Gwyn Davies was born in Meastag South Wales
This list does not include Gary Clwyd who had a 1987 ITV match and several Welsh Channel Four matches
I was at the Royal Albert Hall when the Tremorgan Twins were a no-show so I never saw them either, Graham!
What a great communal effort by everyone. Time to collate the suggestions:
Adrian Street Esq.
Al "Buster" Martin
Alf Morgan
Bryn and Glyn Evans
Bulldog Bill Garnon
Bearded Ken Davies.
Dave Morgan
Dai Morgan (1940s)
Dai Sullivan
Don Vines
Gooding = Tremorgan Twins
Gwyn Davies
Hal Vaughan
Jimmy Wilde
John Paul/Rocky Paul
Johnny Morgan
Johnny Williams
Johnny Yearsley
Killer Ken Davies
Lew Roberts
Monty Briton
Orig Williams
Reg Dennis
Sandy Orford
Taffy Jones (...are we serious?)
Tony Charles
Any more?
I seem to remember The Gooding Twins who worked the independents and were then used by Max Crabtree as The Tremorgans. I never saw them but i definitely remember them being on posters.
Didn’t we have a poster here recently from early in the career of Pete Roberts which had him billed out of Cardiff? At least it’s a Welsh name.....
From the 30's: Hal Vaugham and Alf Morgan
From the independents of the 60s: Jimmy Wilde, John Paul/Rocky Paul, Reg Dennis, Monty Briton, Johnny Morgan (who was also billed from NZ).
Taffy Jones
We've forgotten Ken Davies.
Dai Morgan in the 40's
Don Vines fair enough. But were the others Welsh Graham. Ed Hamill - Ireland? Johnny Locke - Liverpool? Pete Evans - Birmingham? Unless you know better.
There was Llew Roberts from Criccieth. Johnny Williams, Welsh lightweight champion. I think Bryn and Glyn Evans were also Welsh.
It's certainly not easy to think of them though.
