Dear Friends, recently I had a conversation with a friend of mine Lee Martin Meadows who is a coach at the Bolton Olympic Wrestling Club about the "falls" and re "what constituted a victory in the old Lancashire catch-as-catch-can wrestling (1800s)". I am attaching part of an interview with Jim Parr where he explains Catch, and provides a detailed answer to that and similar questions. Hope everyone enjoys the read.

Jim Parr of Wigan, Lancs was one of the top late 1800s Lancashire catch wrestlers, he held the world heavyweight championship title in the Tom Cannon's Promotion.

Right Ron, "lift and throw" techniques dominated Lancashire catch wrestling for a very long time. It was artistic when it comes to the flying falls, all kinds of body slams and suplex throws, yes of course. And yet wrestling on the ground still was a main feature of that style since to give a back fall from the standing position wasn't that easy and required a very special skill.
