For me this accolade goes to Mark'Rollerball' Rocco. His perpetual motion was breathtaking. Also, that nip-up on to his feet without any help from his hands was incredible.Your choices and opinions please.
I would vote for the Dynamite Kid as the fittest, most athletic British wrestler ever, he was incredible. I would vote Mark 'Rollerball' Rocco in second place. The bouts that these two had against each other on World of Sport are still amazing to watch, British wrestling at its very best
Powerlock I always enjoy your posts, but I couldn't put McManus in the same class as Colbeck here. Colbeck, undeniably skilful, was dour and lacked versatility. He was ideal to be a more than credible opponent to McManus, Pallo and a few others. But THEY ran the bout due to their great variety of strategies which their physical energy and thinkingly energetic brains allowed.
This thread's about being the fittest; Colbeck rarely changed up from second gear. (But we knew he could)
I remember seeing Big Daddy making his way up the stairs back to the dressing room after a bout at Fairfield looking like he was about to have a heart attack, he'd stopped to catch his breath half way up and really looked like he shouldn't be out, let alone wrestling. If indeed you could call what he did wrestling! Fittest I would say Rocco by a mile he started at 90mph and finished the same
I was going to say Rocco too, also what about Big Shirley's tag partners who got battered from pillar to post night after night by opponents normally twice the size and weight for Shirley to jump in for 30 seconds to save the day
ever-young Colbeck, or Johnny Saint. Yes Steve Wright in his early wrestling years looked like Greek God.

Yes, well reasoned.

IMHO.
Totally agree Anglo Mick never short changed in a bout, always 100 per cent total professional and always gave other lad some spot time.
Now don't laugh but ... Mick McManus never let up for a moment in his bouts, total concentration end to end. Non-stop grunting.
Ok, not the most athletic, but undeniable focused energy.
Alan Wood incredible stamina,Vic Faulkner constant speed.
Yes. Steve Grey. Fit Finley, Johnny Saint, Infact most of the proper wrestlers were very fit.
Steve Grey was amazing in his prime.

I was always impressed by Geoff Portz when he was at his peak wrestling in the UK. He was really formidable.
Dynamite Kid
Keith Hayward was very energetic and tough
So many of the lightweights had boundless energy: Johnny Saint, Jon Cortez, Zoltan Boscik.
