I have read the Story of Catch by Ruslan C Pashayev and it states it clearly Catch As Catch Can Wrestling has never had subs. Billy Riley was not a Lancashire Catch Wrestler he was a pro wrestler In the All in Rules. I'd love to know what misinformed so called "researcher" wrote this article.
Any answers to this would be appreciated and or debate.
good catch, yes you are correct there never were any kinds of submissions in Lancashire catch as catch can wrestling. the submission holds belong to the Japanese self defense culture. All currently used in pro wrestling submission holds and finishes originated from Japanese MMAs such as judo and jiujitsu. Winning the pro wrestling matches on submissions became only possible when Lancashire catch as catch can was not practiced anymore but instead the new form of pro wrestling the All In wrestling was introduced. All-in was a mix of three cultures Catch Greco and Japanese MMAs. That is why the matches were won either British-Euro way on back-falls, or on submissions according to the Japanese rules. Thank you kind Sir for pointing this out.
