Yesterday a Facebook friend of mine asked me this question: why do you promote UWW Beach Wrestling, its undeniable fact you do it all the time. Why?
Here's my answer:
I love traditional wrestling, I love everything about it, first of all I love about it that it is an essential part of any nation's cultural heritage, something that represents its uniqueness, just like language, and various forms of folklore such as traditional clothes and traditional cuisine, folk dancing, and folk singing and etc do.
The vast majority of traditional wrestling styles worldwide are standing wrestling. Some of them are fixed hold styles (whether its belt, collar or back holds) others are catch hold styles. The former accent use of feet/legs for throwing - tripping/hooking mastery because the hands/arms are pretty much inactive, the latter feature the struggle for the under-catch (whether its wrestling above the waist or free-wrestling) an advantageous hold which leads to a throw.
Considering the above said I resume by saying that UWW Beach Wrestling is the only officially recognized international STANDING style of wrestling. This sport gives representatives of traditional wrestling styles a unique opportunity to compete at the worldwide stage and in there exhibit the best samples of their own folkstyles, and hopefully, one day even show their prowess at Olympics.
The current format of the UWW Beach Wrestling despite being the youngest international style is without a doubt the most ancient form of competitive wrestling which goes all the way back to the dawn of the sport, the times of Antiquity. But not only that, the modern Beach Wrestling is literally the only "official and international" style of wrestling which would actually qualify as "wrestling" in any time period in history, since historically, the "art of wrestling" was defined as "forcing opponent to the ground", so to speak the contest was over as soon as one of the two hit the ground.
The world's most famous Olympians, such as British champions G. Relwyskow Sr. and S.V. Bacon in their books, namely "The Art of Wrestling" and "Standing Catch-as-catch-can" respectively, make a solid statement: there's no real knowledge of wrestling without knowing the noble science of "leverage and balance" i.e. how to wrestle on the feet.
The UWW Beach Wrestling rules are simplicity itself, they basically duplicate an old English "3 go downs" or "a back fall" for victory. The success can also be achieved by pushing opponent outside of the ring following the Japanese Sumo wrestling fashion.
UWW Beach Wrestling in fact welcomes everyone, whether its an expert in Olympic wrestling styles, or a follower of some other wrestling/grappling, MMA disciplines, and pro-wrestling since "rassling" art includes a great number of beautiful throws and takedowns which require great skill and knowledge of the standing wrestling game.
I highly encourage every trained wrestler to try UWW BEACH WRESTLING, I also encourage literally everyone try it, it in fact is a great outdoors fun activity.
Thanks To Everyone For Reading This. Please feel free to share it, would highly appreciate that.
Watched the international Beach Wrestling Tourney in Rome. This is my personal favorite: "Lanky" FLYING HORSE, aka HAM & LEG!!!
Perfection itself, as the Father of English Pro Wrestling Sir T. Parkyns once said, undisputable fall is when "head and then both shoulders hit the ground first".
Do the wrestlers get sand in their eyes?
SaxonWolf, sounds great!!! Ruleset is below.
It's probably a lot safer, landing on sand, rather than on a mat, less painful.
I might give this a try, even at my age!
