As just mentioned elsewhere, South Americans galore masqueraded as Orientals, Spaniards, Americans and other.
But who were the ones who wrestled in British rings when actually billed from South America?
I was chuffed to get Rolando Aguirre's autograph so he tops my list.
Jacobo was billed from Argentina.
Indio Guajiro is another. Columbian but billed from somewhere else, I seem to recall.
Can any others be added to the list?
And of course Prince Kumali was billed from South America!
Wrestling Enterprises(later All Star) had Argentina Sanchez working northern rings about late 70's Had good audience participation.''You shad ap,you sidown'' was his catchphrase.
Not from South America after all
Prince Kumali had been billed as an African Zulu and an African prince. It just looks to me like geographical ignorance in the promoter's office. Guyana sounded nice and African like Guinea, Ghana, Gambia, and in it slipped.
I think he was merely part of the Windrush generation. Probably from Jamaica or one of the larger isles.
The promoters were obsessed with Africa - a sure sign they had no true Africans on the staff! They nabbed all sorts of exotic places to bill wrestlers from: Honey Boy from Sierra Leone, Masambula from Gambia, and I recall Majid Ackra being billed from Ghana. And of course Kwango famously from Nigeria.
It seems like immigrants' true countries of origin were considered unsuitable and unappealing. I used to be fascinated by the African Witchdoctor and had I known he was from Trinidad I would have been a bit deflated.
Was Prine Kumali not legit from Guyana?
I think Indio Guajiro was billed from Peru?
