I only saw Harvey Smith wrestle twice; at The Sports Centre, Newark, against Peter Kaye and later at The King's Hall, Belle Vue, against "Black" Jack Mulligan.I recall Harvey sitting atop Kaye, slapping his flank and riding him around the ring as if he were a horse. Very entertaining but very carefully planned. I think the Mulligan bout also featured on TV. I don't think he ever met any of the "big names" such as Mc.Manus, Street or Pallo. In fact, I think he appeared on Max Crabtree shows just as Pallo and Street were moving to the independents making themselves available to characters like ,myself for our little village hall shows.
To get back to the original theme; Clive Myers and Ben Boothman for arm wrestling?
Alan Garfield and The Great Tojo weightlifting.
Bruno Elrington was a boxer.
Going back to your comments, Graham: Pallo and Harvey Smith were great enemies, weren't they?
Now I have to add Harvey Smith who trained the Grand National winner.
A few show-jumpers, I believe: Gwyn Davies, Mark Rocco.
Do John Lees and Spencer Churchil count as bodybuilders?
Tony St Clair football,Micky Gold cricket trialed for Lancashire,John Kowalski cycling.
The younger Steve Logan became a very proficient Thai Boxer
Jack Doyle was also supposed to be a boxer, but as he appeared to be scared of being hit, I don't know why.
He certainly did not get too close to any opponent in the ring.
Randolph Turpin, Jack London, Lloyd Barnett and Tony Galento were boxers, but did they ever become wrestlers as we know it?
Jim Moran was a boxer.
I think Brian Maxine started out as boxer.
Hans Streiger was a former professional boxer. So too I think Big Jim Moran.
Bobby Barnes and Steve Grey were boxers but not professionally
Boxers Randolph and Jackie Turpin.
