ON 20 February 1960 a young girl aged nine Iris Dawkins was stabbed to death in Southamptopn. A boy aged 10 was charged with her murder. He called an alibi that he was watching wrestling on ITV when two men fell out of the ring. It was checked and that did happen. He was acquitted. Does any know or can look up without too much trouble who was on the bill that afternoon?
Many thanks
It was a funny case altogether, Peter. He confessed to his mother telling her a pack of lies and changing his story several times. H e had many details in his 'confession' wrong. There was no scientific evidence against him, no knife and the judge ruled there was no case for him to answer. He had been in care for four months and his mother had had to move house twice. Eight years later a man walked into the local police station and confessed. He was sent to a mental institution, I believe.
