I have a few of these. The Wrestling by Simon Garfield (not sure how much of this one is accurate) All Adrian Streets books (a great read) and Kendo's book which Ive just started.
What else would you recommend? I've heard Johnny Kincade and The Dynamite kid both have books but I haven't managed to find either of those. Are they any good?
For it’s time, Sportsviewers Guide to Wrestling was a good book. The forward written by none other than the great Mick McManus, with some great pictures of the top tv stars. One for the bookshelf!
Both "This Grappling Game" and "Pictorial History of Wrestling" were stolen from my nearest library but remember both as very interesting
Someone on eBay (from Manchester) selling five or six wrestling books for 20 quid, including Dynamite Kid/Pure Dynamite
Cheers Mate. I left a message for you which I think is now on the next page.
"Pure Dynamite" is one of the best wrestling books out there, and DK tells it as it is, warts and all.
Johnny Kincaid's book was a good read.
Orig Williams was good but he sort of drifts between wrestling being a show and wrestling being a real, sporting event, if I am recalling it correctly.
William (Steve) Regal's book, "Walking a Golden Mile" is great.
"The Wrestling" - of course.
Graeme Kent's Pictorial History of Wrestling.
All the Adrian Street books.
Kendo Nagasaki's book, which we all waited so long for.
Have a Good Week, till Next Week by John Lister.
"Thumb's Up" - Dazzler Joe Cornelius, I would not really rate, he goes into his private life (sex life) a bit too much!
I'd love to read it Howard as DK was an exceptional wrestler, but I think its quite rare now and quite collectable hence the price which is just too expensive.
'Pure Dynamite' is a brilliant read. Tom sent me a signed copy when it first came out. His honesty shines through, especially as he never claims to have been an angel.
Sadly, my prized copy of This Grappling Game, was stolen. Great book, great read.
Cheers for that Phil / Graham. I never knew Kent wrote a book.
One book that I would recommend in particular if you are from the North of England is:
Billy Riley The man, the legacy by
Dr. Stephen Greenfield-Mark De Courcy.
A huge amount of information on a lot of wrestlers, in particular the ones from the fifties and sixties.
This Grappling Game by Kent Walton. Fantastic book, and well worth reading.
Thanks Ron, sounds good. I think Kendo's book covers my Kendo obsession nicely.
All the best Mate.
If Dynamite Kid book is too expensive , I would recommend The Pain and the Passion , the story of Stampede Wrestling.
So many of our men went there you get a great picture and loads about Dynamite kid.
Will warn you that it has nothing about Kendo in it.
Yeah, I've heard Mark is quite poorly. :( Lets hope he make a speedy recovery. He's nothing like his ring character at all, a lovely, friendly bloke who has done a lot for charity.
Hey Dude!
Thanks. I'll see if I can find them. just found and ordered johnny kincade for a very reasonable £6.00. Dynamite kids book however is £40.00 … I don't think so!
We need Rocco to do one! that would be a great read.
