I enjoyed reading Main Mask's article in the recent Newsletter and think it's a great idea to group together these cornerstone moments in our history. Such a good idea that I believe we should develop it further with everyone's input.
Main Mask set the ball rolling with these three moments:
- January 1945, Belle Vue, Manchester: Assirati takes British Heavyweight Championship from George Gregory.
- April 1962, Granada Tooting: Doctor Death unmasks The White Angel.
- May 1963 Belle Vue, Manchester: Billy Robinson challenged Billy Joyce for the British Heavyweight Championship.
May 1963 could lay claim to being the very peak month of Professional Wrestling's history. Also that month I posted a contender for Wrestling's Greatest Night (not necessarily bill) in the On This Day thread a few days ago:
- May 1963, Royal Albert Hall: The Duke of Edinburgh attends a live tv show.
- May 1963, Wembley televised: McManus v Pallo II.
The definition online of an Epiphany Moment is: "a sudden, intuitive perception of, or insight into, the reality or essential meaning of something, usually initiated by some simple, homely, or commonplace occurrence or experience."
Which Epiphany Moments can other Members add to the list?
One of my Epiphany moments was the first time I saw Johnny Kwango live.A real revelation how little effort he made not even making headbutting his hand look realistic
Another one for me was the 1971 TV match with Billy Howes grappling with the mask of Kendo Nagasaki to give us a glimpse of the masked mans face. From then on the Identity of Kendo was a dominating feature of the next few years.
Must be March 5th 1966 when Nagasaki unmasked Bartelli.
