My father was born in South Wales, and moved to Yorkshire when he was 3. As my grandad was brought up by Eddie Waring to play rugby for Dewsbury.

My grandfather did also mask in blue, my mum made the mask!! He also one wore a monacle ! I do remember dad telling me another name, it was something African!! Grandad was a strong man before he took up rugby and wrestling

The French heard my fathers name and decided he was Scottish and hired bag pipe players, my father (Gwyn) had to hire a kilt very quickly, if my mum didn’t actually make it

The Bearded Monach was in actual fact my grandfather, one of his many names until he settled with Ken Davies, in which my father had to be Davies to tag team. My father having been born in Meastag

@adrianpollard.shangri-la he started as a tag team with my grandfather who as you know was Ken Davies, so he had to be something Davies

Thank you for my grandad’s addition. Gwyn Davies was just my dad!! I went to watch him once in Blackpool against Giant Haystacks, but I couldnt watch because he was hurting my dad!!! The staff who looked after me were fabulous. Ken Davies was my wonderful grandad. Both very welsh and proud! Always some rivalry between them. We dreaded the day he retired, but as with dad he took everything in his stride. One thing he did say in relation to his last fight. He was proud to finish at the venue he started in, and that Steve Veidor was more than kind to him that night.

I would love to be able to ask him, but he passed away December 2017. Maybe my mum will know
