Dear Friends,
attaching the Bury 1849 map it shows the Adam Ridings' pub called 'The Lancashire Wrestler' (former 'The Golden Cup', as some locals claim). To the best of my knowledge it was owned by the Meadowcroft Family (another famous 'rasslin' dynasty of East Lancashire). Pub is located on the intersection of 4 streets: Moor Gate, Moor Side, Water Street and Paradise Street. I am trying to find out what is currently located at that address? Would highly appreciate any help on this matter. Thanks in advance.

I've just found this & ordered your book. Adam Ridings was my 2x g grandfather. I have been searching for his wrestling career for over 20 years. My dad told me of him & there were photographs hanging in a pub called The Eagle. I was never able to find it, but from where he described it was in a side st off The Rock & certainly heading toward the old Moorside
I've just ordered your book and am looking forward to reading it.

Wonderful , and in many parts of Lancashire those cobbled streets came right into the 1960's with even the odd patch there today.
Ron, the 1852 photo taken in Bury, Lancs. The hometown of catch legend The Lancashire Wrestler Adam Ridings. By the way he was still a champ in 1850s.
Sure Eddie Rose who is from Bury and still lives there, will be able to help more.
Cheers
A lot of impressive buildings were lost in redevelopment after the war
Nothing there anymore Ruslan , just Road Junctions (New Roads) right in the town centre.
Get your bearings by looking at BAMBURY STREET on both maps
