Another Popular Wrestler and a real Crowd Pleaser was a Regular on Bills in the 1940's-
TIGER WOOD!-This 'Heavy-Set' Middleweight was a bit of a Comedian who employed a
well tried and tested 'Rope Routine' where he got Tangled' up Purposely to amuse the Crowd!
What few People ever knew was that TIGER had his own unusual Pet............
A TIGER called SHEILA-Have a look below........
MAIN MASK
That does not look like a real tiger.
That's a first time for me. Great picture!
Does anyone know what ever became of Tiger Woods.
Magnificent contributions as always Main Mask, thanks very much. Although I didn't see Tiger Woods I have a couple of memories.
About 1974 or 75 I went to a show at Preston Guildhall. On the bill was Tiger Woods. There was a very keen fan from Derbyshire, well known at the time but I don't recall his name, who had made the journey to see Tiger thinking it was the old time. We were both disappointed to see Alan Wood get in the ring. Don't get me wrong. I really rated Alan Wood and always enjoyed watching him. I was just disappointed not to be watching someone I hadn't seen before.
About ten years ago I was in correspondence with an old timer, Geoff Illingworth, who wrestled as Mark Hudson and had later moved to Australia. He talked longingly and fondly of his friend Alan Wood.
Sadly Geoffs correspondence ended abruptly and due to his age I fear the worst.
Out of interest whilst writing this I looked back at his emails. This is from February 2009, just ten years ago and sounds frighteningly familiar
Thanks for your concern. The fires are mainly in Victoria and NSW. However, as you say, the hills about Adelaide are very vulnerable. Especially when we have people who deliberately light fires, just for fun! As at 0800hrs today, Tuesday, the death toll is 173 from those fires and they expect to find more bodies. The wind has changed direction and blowing the fires to greater heights. There are still some 14 fires burning heading towards two more townships. It's the worst disaster in Aussie history. We are safe enough at present, we reside in a suburb of Adelaide and it is mainly housing with very little country to burn, thank goodness. Once again, thanks for your concern.
All the best for now,
Geoff
Tiger Wood/Woods seemed like a real character who got publicity in the Mat magazines regularly.
The Ost, we have Conroy and Lewis, both Mancunians and both under 12st. What about Fred Woolley...he also meets these criteria.
And here's TIGER Taking on JIMMY LEWIS at SUTTON-IN-ASHFIELD-MONDAY OCTOBER 31ST 1949!
Note ANOTHER TIGER on this Bill!.......
