A stack of names from that period of which we know nothing.......Frank Manto.....Alf Jenkins.....Chick Knight.....Chick Elliott....and on it goes......
Thanks Ron. Yes I too found lots of references to the actor Selmer Jackson and you may be right. My thinking was that there were a number of Canadian and American Forces men here at that time and he could have been one of them.
Selmer Jackson was said to be Canadian. As he was only around from August 1943 until October 1944 this could well be true and that he was part of the Canadian forces based in Britain.
Manchester or Canada , I think Selmer Jackson was a "Take" on a filmstar actor through the 1930's. Rollerball Rocco came from a film , then we had Kung Fu and Catweazle and I am sure there have been many more.
I am struggling on both. Selmer is almost not even valid as a christian name , but I did find just the one. He is said to be a Canadian Lumberjack , but I suspect no more a foreigner that Vic Hesselle. I also don't know much about Ted Beckley's career. SaxonWolfe may well be right. Over the last 10 years we have found out a lot about the 1930's and it's wrestlers and then we seem to fast forward to about 1950 , leaving the 40's as a bit of a gap for those whose main core career was that decade. Belle Vue in this period was Dick and Jessie Rogers who had some loyal wrestlers and many well known names never touched him I don't really know the politics of all this. Bartelli did not do Belle Vue under Rogers . (I think !)
Manto was one of 3 famous brother , Carlton Smith and Bert Mansfield.
There has even been a book about Chick Knight , but I know what you mean about this period Bill.

Wasn't Ted Betley sometimes billed as Ted Beckley?, maybe Legs Beckley is him?
