Hi Hack, looking back at an old comment of yours(June 11 th 2019), I saw 3 or 4 of these K.O tournaments in Newcastle in the 50's. I remember this particularly because Norman won a couple of them. But they were a bit nonsensical.( the results I mean).
I made a comment a while ago because Eric Taylor won one against a pile of heavyweights.
Don't know about you guys on here , but I am smirking. The greatest deception of all time in sport , nothing has ever come close to matching such Oscar winning moments.
Nice one Anglo Italian. Did you intentionally "like" your own post. I know you sometimes find it difficult to get support on this forum, but that's not really necessary.
Smirk? I was grinning like a Cheshire Cat when I found this Ron. Came across it by accident. You always say where there's one there were more Ron, and there must be other examples out there.
Backing to the initial assertion when the Wryton Cup first came that these one night tournaments had no lasting value.Well, one night in this case. Did Ernie hand over the hundred quid? Wrestling nonsense.
I see no LIKE, Hack. As we all know, the reply button isn't always available, but it is now. Try to keep on topic and not use diversionary tactics. Your accolade of "Nice One" is enough for me. Thank you.
Someone must be trying to impersonate you Anglo, can't imagine why. There's your like, in the centre, to the left of myself. Please try and stay on topic.
Well, well, well. The night after our intrepid sportsmen had battled it out for this £100 and silver trophy they did it all over again the night after.
There's a good chance that it was E. Riley who won the Oct 30th 1959 tourney as well. Then there's a tendency. I never seen any images of Riley with any trophies.
Yes Hack, this bill took my attention. Of course "100 pounds" is a part of kayfabe culture...again like you said before for many fans it was still a sport, so that good amount of money would make sense to be at stake. As for the silver trophy, I sure can't tell what kind of trophy it was whether it was Wryton Trophy or just another trophy. We have this bill from 1959.
You keep finding them Ruslan. I would have thought if these tournaments were of any significance someone would have remembered them. This doesn't mention the Wryton trophy you have uncovered in other places. The silver trophy could have been any old trophy and probably was. The 100 pounds a figment of the imagination. I don't recall seeing any ko tournaments on Morrell shows. Possibly held at Belle Vue and Bolton to create interest when they had weekly bills to fill.
Of most interest here is the appearance of Doug Joyce. Why bring Doug all this way up north only for him to lose in the first round. At least he would get home relatively early. Masambula v Kellett seems an odd pairing.

These Lancashire promoters "really were taking their customers for a ride," weren't they, Hack?
Love the all-Bristol match-up.
