The BBC Archive You Tube Channel has reposted the Philpott documentary following the Klondykes. In a few hours it has already had over three thousand views and 156 votes of appreciation
Loved it , and nice simple stuff , worked every time. Many years ago I shared with you a photo of Mrs Historyo and her brother meeting one of them in Douglas.
It would be interesting to know what the deal was ££££-wise for them to sell out as Hack describes.
There was no instant access to view re-runs in those days so I don't think this documentary, hidden away on BBC 2, will have been seen by many. I certainly don't recall anything about it at the time.
I agree with 1978 Kid that the documentary is excellent. However, although it gave the two wrestlers (and Orig) more publicity than they could ever hope for I do think they made a mistake in allowing themselves to be portrayed in the way they were. We paid our money to watch two brutes who feared no one, and here they were with the bigger of the two answering to his girlfriend and looked after by his mum in their Yorkshire home. The posters proclaimed the pair from Fairbanks had appeared at Madison Square Gardens and now we find them sharing a room in a bed and breakfast before working in a small Welsh hall.
Hi Peter
This is Orig Williams:
He wouldn't miss out on any tv exposure!
And the leopardskin trunks belong, I believe, to Billy White Wolf:
Almost 12,000 views in just one month. Can anyone identify their opponents?
Klondyke Bill v Dave Larsen
I've just looked at the You Tube inclusion. I only saw a 10 minute excerpt, not the full documentary. Am I missing something?

it is an excellent documentary, and somewhat poignant given Klondyke Bill's sad premature death
Now surpassed six thousand views in just three days.Amazing for a documentary from over half a century ago
