Again have a question about a, probably british wrestler taking part of the great vienna tournament at the "Heumarkt". From June 7th to 14th 72, a Yukon was here to wrestle for a few bouts. I found a Billy Yukon in the A-Z. Could it be him? As you can see at the paper clip other participants are Shirley Crabtree (here as John Crabstree), Jack Rowlands, Don Vines and El Cameron. Maybe this helps a little bit.
Thank you
The tournaments in Vienna continued every summer well into the 1990s long after the end of the ITV broadcasts
The article states that the four heaviest wrestlers will be appearing tonight in tag. Unfortunately, it also describes the wrestling as a spectacle that "challenges the laughing muscles" of the public.
Gernot, how seriously was wrestling taken in Austria at that time? Was it on tv regularly?
of course shirl did a stint as Yukon during his retirement days
1972 and Alan Garfield was still around though nearing the end of his career. He worked as Yukon Rex in South Africa.
I can't shed much light on this one. Yes 1972 was very much a Billy Yukon year and I don't see alternatives , but the other guys in Austria seem more entrenched with Joint Promotions, I even have Billy a few days after the Austria Tournament ended.
