Promoters were always Dreaming-Up new angles to Attract the Punters and one that was
tried over a 4 Year period in the late '50's-early '60's was 3 ASIDE TAGGING!
This 'Idea' came from AMERICA but in my View wasn't really much of a 'GO-ER'!!
A kind of a 'half-way house' between Solo Matches and Multi Wrestler 'Rumbles' they can't
have been easy to 'Work'?
In our Rings the 3 RAWLINGS Brothers were often on one side of the Ring against another
'Team' looking like it had been 'cobbled together'! This with then one of the 3 Wrestlers
Billed dropping out and hastily replaced didn't make for a Good Bout!
I once saw an AMERICAN 'Effort' involving GORDON NELSON which was 'passable'
but it was easy to Degenerate into a 6 Man 'Brawl'
Wonder if BERNARD ever Witnessed one of these 'Matches'?
Programmes to follow and watch out for the included very early Outing for JIM BREAKS
and MICK MCMICHAEL!!
MAIN MASK
The Royal brothers, and the Dynamite Kid as a triple tag team worked really well.
Thanks Th'Ost
Yes, they did singles matches, followed by a team match. You can see in this example they were doing a money challenge as they had yet to be defeated as a team:
i guess they must have had three singles matches first, otherwise there would only be two matches on the bill.
Wrestliing is hard enough to make look authentic between two willing opponents. Clever tag teams can trot out tried and trusted routines against the same opponents - we've discussed the Cadmans v the Royals just recently.
But six thinking brains each trying to work a direction for the one-off bout - just can't work.
No, never saw 3 man tags.
I saw(like Hack) 3 man team matches, that ended with 2 from each side selected for a tag match to finish.
I don't remember any three a side tags, but do remember team matches. But Main Mask has produced the goods with his three a side tags. I can't see them working myself, and the suggestion of a team cobbled together seems appropriate in these two examples.
I can remember a six man billed at St James with Masambula,Honey Boy Zumba and Johnny Kwango as a team but didn't get to the show so don't know if it happened
