Thanks Romeo, but no way can that be right. He looks a good 6 foot on Youtube. 5'3" and 16 stone would also have made him even squatter than Assirati, which he wasn't.
There's a deal of guesswork on US sites about our wrestling.
Yes, Hack. I suppose it throws up the question: to what extente were Dale Martin "checking" what the likes of Paul Lincoln and Devereaux got up to within the group?
Wrestlers were clearly supplied and somehow paid. But in the case of Tooting, the programme was clearly not printed within the usual DM printing and text-writing process. Was it vetted by Dale Martin?
Back to Al's Tooting programme: the four old boys were so precious about their reputaions that there were three inconclusive results. Three in the big three bouts really stank. A clear lack of across-the-bill planning.
On a side note, the McManus v Quasimodo pairing always strikes me as an unrealistic mis-match. Can anone tell me how tall Quasimodo was?
Question of audience, Mark. We'd been enjoying great Paul Lincoln bills in the Granada Tooting for 9 years by 1969. We nerds in 2020 look at all that promotional detail, but the Tooting fans wanted continuity regardless of the contractuals. Lincoln had pushed BWF hard for years and wasn't going to abandon it.
I noticed that Al's programme was from 1969, which was after Paul Lincoln became part of Joint Promotions. Yet the programme says referees appointed by British Wrestling Federation. Wouldn't we expect to see appointed by Joint promotions.
What I can remember is Steve Logan being one up,on top then getting disqualified. Mick McManus v Quasimodo got out hand.good entertainment. But for rest of bill it was a long time ago sad to say.
4 bouts was absolutely normal in DM-Land. Croydon and Bristol and tv shows were the exception.
I'm guessing 1970 for these last two - great to see Garfield topping the bill; one of the very last times, I'd say.
4 Catchweight bouts on the one bill was sloppy, though. Catchweight needed to be deployed sparingly to keep believability. Mind you, Czeslaw and Starr must have been equal weights, so it was sloppy all the way.
Probably not "stonking
But my other programme from Tooting Granada
I noticed The Outlaw was in hospital?

Wrestlingdata.com lists Quasimodo as 5 feet 3 inches (1.60m) at a bodyweight of 220 lbs (15 stones 10 lbs)

Feasible Anglo Italian. Shows a respect of DM for the independents.

Yes I did go that night
Basil Riley you was asking about is also known as Romany Riley and i seen him billed as Basal L Riley,i think they are all the same person.
Any Good.?
Didn't you just love the way they diligently stated the counties!
Even Birmingham got a county, in case we didn't know where it was,
Such style.
Public Warning to Powerlock for dissent!
There's a bout I never saw- Roach v Bruno. Wow!
