In response to MM's excellent early 50's bills topic that I took keen interest in, I have put up another couple of galleries of wrestling bills. This time i've gone with Mask's local - King's Hall Belle Vue.
Most of the bills/programmes are from the 1960's although there are a few later ones.
MM if you have time (and/or inclination) feel free to add more items to the Belle Vue gallery - it would make it a very comprehensive collection if you did.
Not sure how to embed a link here (perhaps Hack or Anglo can tidy this up): https://www.wrestlingheritage.co.uk/apps/photos/album?albumid=16170103
I've also done another gallery for Liverpool Stadium in the 60's.
As I said Hack this was discussed in Solihull. Why did this lady from a Prestwich council estate bother to source Tillotsons Bolton address and also inform Merseyside of Jacks alleged failings at BelleVue More to do with the Free Trade Hall scheduling than a criticism of a Yorkshire promoter.
A great collection Ost. Those notes in the Belle Vue programmes always impressed me.
There's a splendid story of Belle Vue by Ray Noble in Blood, Sweat and Speedway
If that's what you mean about embedding Ost you just highlight the text before clicking the link button and inserting the URL in the usual way.
As for that letter it really is remarkable, and clearly no accident as it receives a reply. Promoters had the confidence to know that regulars would ridicule the letter. After all, they all knew Jack Pye.
Reminds me of the time that I wrote a private letter to someone that was very critical of an independent promoter and was shocked to open a Morrell programme and find my letter published. I wasn't pleased.
Ahhh the famous letter,I heard about this in dressing room at Solihull many years later. The letter was also sent to Bolton Evening News with slight address change also sent to Liverpool Echo. Now this really was a work,in true Agatha Christie Style double bluff.
Why on earth would they publish it in Liverpool?
Maybe laziness and they simply didn't notice the local reference...
Would sure have aroused the suspicions of Liverpool fans.
And Jack Pye packed in soon after that .....
Fascinating varied collection, thank you.
After seeing his photo here, I have now concluded that Masambula never had an illness, he simply stopped working out and this caused him to lose two stone.
Amazing to see that letter published, complaining about the phoney routines of Jack Pye. Absolutely amazing. And below it, an enthusiastic young lady has her letter posted complete with full name and address. Different times.
Hard not to notice the single bill with Wall, Joyce, Robinson and Gordienko. It seemed to be Jack Pye every second week, seemingly carrying the bill, with more varied cards in the intervening weeks.
Again, the promoter decides to keep a very low profile, whilst listing virtually every member of staff at the hall.
