I have been trying to track down any existing US TV footage of Alan Garfield, so far with no luck.
We know he was in the USA in 1962 and 1963 and for quite a while he was in California where he wrestled in Los Angeles at the Olympic Auditorium, and in San Francisco at the Cow Palace. Both of these venues were used by their respective promoters as television venues. So I am hopeful that at some point, I will come across footage of him in action.
The reason for this post, though, is something else. Back in the mid-1950's, in Canada, a trading card company, called Parkurst, released a series of trading cards, depicting the image of a wrestler, and on the reverse side, the short biography (in French!).
The full list of wrestlers trading cards for 1955 can be found here, and we see that number 35 is Alan himself. https://www.wrestlingtradingcards.com/1955-1956-parkhurst-wrestling-trading-cards-parkhurst/
I have stumbled on a Youtube show, where the two hosts discuss a different wrestler, based on one of the trading cards. When it came to our man, they were a bit bamboozled, and one of them had never heard of Garfield. The other host had done some research and had come up with some basic facts. The show only lasts about 5 minutes, if anyone wants to see it.
Well , as you can see Garfield was one of the bill highlights. Ost has shed some light on this. It will take a clever man to track this down.
Ron, yes wrestling from Calgary was televised in this timeframe. For example, here is an episode from 1961:
That's quite a find Ron. When we read those American magazines years ago and Gene Kiniski winning the NWA World Heavyweight Title how many of us would have imagined that a few years earlier Alan Garfield had wrestled him?
I don't think we will have anyone who will know the answer , but the main show of the week in Stampede was Fridays in Calgary. My question is , was it always televised. This also applies to footage of Kendo on his tour there.
The bill I am showing in 1962 looks absolute prime for me. Could it have been televised.
Did Hart's sell it to WWE or does a TV company have it.
Does anyone know how it all worked over there.
Anyone got a wrestling friend in Canada, In particular Alberta and did it have it's own TV station in this vast Country.
Oh, the link is there, I see now. Nice chit chat but the old timer knows nothing.
I have made a comment. Let's see if they come back....
Struth! What a sleuth you are, Saxonwolf!
