For some reason from the late 1950's right up to 1980-there seemed to be a Plethera of
Wrestlers just starting out sporting/incorporating the Epithet 'YOUNG' within their Ring
Moniker!-Even to the point-as will be seen- of TWO 'YOUNG' Whoevers appearing on the
SAME Bill!!-Can't say I was a 'Fan' of this-it was almost as though they really weren't 'old'
enough to be Wrestling at all!!
Some of them were just 'YOUNG' plus a normal Christian Name like RAYMOND-Others
were a bit more 'Exotic' like YOUNG VULCAN or YOUNG GALAHAD or even YOUNG
SAMSON!!
As late as 1980 we had the Embryo BRITISH BULLDOG-aka DAVY BOY SMITH starting
out as YOUNG DAVID!!-' Learning' his Trade in Handicap Matches against the Likes of
JIM BREAKS!!
But we ALL age and dubbing a Wrestler at 30-'YOUNG' this or that hardly could be 'credible'
so for me Why bother in the first place-not to mention somewhat confusing for the Fans?!
Who saw any of these 'YOUNG'Wrestlers-maybe YOUNG CHESTER? for example?
Programmes to follow!
MAIN MASK
Three very young wrestlers who did not use "Young "but where very young Steve Wright,Steve Kelly and Steve Logan of Birmingham
Nowt new in wrestling , Young was a gimmick in the 1930's
One example Young Saxon was Billy Charnock's son.
Leon Fortuna was Young Sullivan, but not for long. Jim Starsky was Young Starsky. Dave Larsen and Ted Gutteridge was Young Hackenschmidt, Johnny Milo was Young Milo, Tony Granzi was Young Alexander, Jim Mellor was Young Aherne, Jack Sambrooks was Young Santos, Pete Lapaque was Young Pierre, and we've got a couple of Young Atlases in the A-Z.
One night I saw the name Young Raymond on the poster, the name Farmer Raymond on the programme and he was then introduced as Ray Taylor. So no one can remain young forever, unlike Mike Marino who was always a Golden Boy.
Any information about Young Chester?
The Young Vulcan I knew was Fred Higginbottam from Sheffield. He made a couple of television appearances, in 1960 and 1963. In 1961, the time of this programme, he was working for Joint Promotions so I doubt if this is him. This is a Jack Taylor show and I have seen a Reg Vulcan advertised by Taylor.
Young Robby grew out of his tag after about six years,
