Taken from the the December 1st edition of the TV Times way back in 1963.
Indeed, my prized copy of This Grappling Game, was stolen.
It disappeared from my library as well eventually
This Grappling Game was always booked out of library.Took me ages to get hold of it
I remember reading about the Reverend Michael Brooks in Kent Walton’s famous book This Grappling Game. Also, watched his bout on YouTube versus Johnny Peters. A great bout, demonstrating all the necessary grappling skills.
It seems Mike did more to enhance the image of Professional Wrestling than some of the more well names before and subsequently
Taken from the February 1964 edition of "The Wrestler."
The above is his obituary from the Minutes of the Methodist Conference.
I feel proud to be a Methodist Minister serving the same Church that Mike did, even though we never met
A fine ambassador for Professional Wrestling and Methodism
He came to Leyland. Not to wrestle. But to the Methodist church.
The availability on You Tube of his match versus Johnny Peters confirms Brooks was a legit excellent wrestler
He actually lived around the corner from a girl I went out with in the 1970s
thanks so much for sharing, much appreciated! cool stuff as always!
I remember The Reverend Michael Brooks very well. He preached at a number of Methodist Churches in North Lancashire during the 1960’s.
I know a schoolboy contemporary of his who regarded him as a nuisance in always wanting to wrestle his classmates!
@williamr he moved onto the outskirts of Newcastle, and was based in Throckley for a good few years.
