Old jacks comment on these matches was it was the first signs decline.Whilst happy to do them he was uncomfortable with them stretching the all important at that time credibility.Others had stronger opinions whilst Nigel as always grinned and got on with it Geoff Portz fumed and the series with Geoff only amounted to a few bouts.Honey boy and Jack were on the final Wryton stadium bill and jack was reprimanded for pretending to look through binoculars to spot the crowd and remarking it's bingo next week.it was a very sad night and with each bump dust came off the canvas and the noise of portable heaters, the dressing room atmosphere was like a wake without alcohol.
I saw Zimba v Pallo at what was then the cinema in Newport, IW, many years ago. I thought it a decent match/show, although, as suggested, Pallo was the winner.
And no prizes for guessing that Pallo probably won.
My understanding is that McManus and Pallo wrestled the likes of Kirkwood,
Czeslaw, Joynson and Zimba to underline their superiority over the middleweights. Each fought the much heavier Ricki Starr and Quasimodo at the Albert Hall.
I agree with your sentiments Main Mask. Don't think we should get too het up about it. Jump back into your Tardis to the 1960s. Would you have thought mismatch? Or would you have thought now there's a chance for this big head to get his come-uppance? And hand over your money. I would.
