There are now several matches on You Tube from French TV with the wrestlers in a ring surrounded by a swimming pool.A rather unusual contraption is used to get to and from the ring. Was this ever tried in the UK?
The Daily Mirror of 1st September, 1936 reported wrestlers were sought for a programme in New Brighton but must be able to swim. The contests were on a floating ring in the middle of the pool at New Brighton swimming bath
Another indication of how mainstream All in Wrestling was in 1936 that this was reported in the Daily Mirror

Although clearly they were running this as a "funnies" story as newspapers generally do about wrestling, rather than as a serious piece of sports reporting.

Here we go:from the planet that bought you Water Polo, Water Boarding and Water Fights, we bring you:WATER-WRESTLING !!!
No, this was a particular French thing. Oddly enough, when I was little in the late 70s, I once had a dream where they were holding "Water Wrestling" in next door's garden (which in real life didn't have a pool, but this was a dream so it did here.) exactly the same as those French shows.
FMW in Japan did some in the sea in thec1980s one of the biggest problems with the rings was the lack of give as the floating ring couldn't be sprung because of the lack of stability. WCW ring evidently wasn't floating but was on a structure beneath the water so maybe it was better and safer to work in.

As Jim Cornette has pointed out in the past, FMW have a lot to answer for in terms of AEW's crimes against wrestling.

AEW's US television company has previous with providing wrestling shows to ITV - to wit WCW on ITV 1990-1995 especially bang up to date WCW from August '91 and WCW moving to Sat teatime in mid '92, effectively uncancelling Saturday teatime wrestling for three and a half years.
TBS renewing their old ITV wrestling relationship is not unusual at all.

And it still doesn't change the fact that All Elite Wrestling is full of bad untrained garbage wrestlers unworthy of any booking above the grubbiest of indie shows and is damaging the entire industry by getting these fools coverage on TBS (and ITV).. Or the fact that a certain poor quality tag team with a name like Cockney rhyming slang is playing backstage politics to make - in particular a better infinitely more talented tag team - look rubbish. All promoters in the UK - Traidional, Americanised or any kind of hybrid - should be immensely grateful that ITV has not - yet - decided to put AEW on ITV1 on Saturday 1600h
These matches are on You Tube but unlisted. If you access the Segunda Caida Blogspot and go to the home page all these Aquatic Matches are downloaded every Tuesday as part of an ongoing project to download most French TV matches. It began in 1956 and has now reached 1974
I saw this in Monti Carlo in the late 60's. It was truly dreadful. The wrestlers were rowed out to a ring floating in the middle of a swimming pool. It must have been pretty difficult to work as the ring rocked violently at the slightest movement. It was all milked for all it was worth. The only show that I have ever walked out of half way through.
it happened in Australia, from the pages of The Wrestler:
If you don't like aquatic wrestling have a look at this:
