Hello everyone,
I've seen that the website has a short bit about Edoardo Faieta, at this URL https://www.wrestlingheritage.co.uk/wrestlersf.htm
I figured some of you may appreciate this very rare piece of footage from Pava, Italy, 1956 (And God only knows how difficult it is to find video footage of old matches from Italy).
Enjoy!
Late in the fifties, I saw Jimmy Hussey at Newcastle.
I noticed that he had slowed down and did this peculiar walk round the ring and turned ninety degrees to face his opponent..
I was with Norman Walsh later and asked him what he knew about the change.
He said that Jim had copied this move from Baron Faeita.
Great video find, grazie!
Sounds like the opponent is a blond German "Tapinsky." But hard to grasp. Tapinsky, anyone?
I am struck by how similar the style is to fifties UK wrestling.
Also the commentary has that same disparagingly aloof tone as on the Pathé "we know it's fake" News. I can translate the last ten seconds: ",,,.. grimaces of pain then wild screams, then that beastly Faieta prevails. All show, okay, but it's just one way, like any other, to make ends meet.
Alberto Sordi famously dubs both Laurel as well as Hardy in many thirties films.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DGujr6cglDI And this is Faieta in his movie career. He became a relatively distinguishable face of Italian movies, he's even got his own wikipedia page. To give an idea of his size, Italian movie giant (career-wise) Alberto Sordi, standing beside him, was 1.78 x 80kg
Faieta was also on at least three times at Liverpool. In January he beat Jack Pye and there was a return match in March. It was mentioned later that Faieta struggled in the return because he had Flue , but I don't have the result.
But I have a report that gives a good taste of his style.
I will throw in Dale Martins at Coventry 1957
He also was on at Belle Vue a couple of times. Ernie Baldwin and below Jack Pye.
Great amatoroberto. That's a rare treat - pro wrestling from Italy. Any more information or memories of Baron Faieta is welcome.
ANGLO-ITALIAN Jr. !!!! Top man thanks for sharing!
