Sad news on various social media platforms today that Barry Douglas has passed away. Another great gone. A very versatile wrestler, blue eye or villain he always gave his all.
RIP Barry such a lovely unassuming guy,I always got the feeling that he felt overshadowed by the connections believe me he received no favours in any aspect
I think Burley Barry will go down as a mystery in full sight.
We have never uncovered a word of him in any promotional role, yet he must have worked as a promoter, it stands to reason.
His silver spoon seemed only to extend as far as assuring him plenty of tv bouts. But in terms of "competitive" status he never rose above a decidedly supporting role. He clearly would have had the ability to be more prominent. So it seems he was content with a long term career, very much part of the establishment but all along very much in the background. He was called upon to put Red Ivan across on tv, a key cog in setting up Red Ivan's feud over several months.
Barry's wrestling cv was a true A-Z of wrestlers covering various weights and top of the bills to up and comers. A solid wrestler who could be paired with anybody and give the audience their moneysworth. R.I.P. Barry.
Barry certainly kept working hard right to the end of his career. I remember him often being a substitute on Brian Dixon and Max Crabtree shows in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Always a solid wrestling contest from a true professional
Sad news. I remember Barry so well from my boyhood watching wrestling on Saturday afternoons. A real true worker, from the golden era of wrestling. RIP Burly Barry Douglas.
Really sorry to hear this. Barry was a true gentleman. Had a nice conversation with him in the Bar at Morecambe Winter Gardens in 1971. Lindi Caulder, Mick McMichael and Vic Faulkner were also there. A really interesting time.
RIP my friend. CvZ
