Firstly see Part 1 of This Thread!!
It Seems Our HACK is More or Less 'Convinced' That COUNT BARTELLI either would NOT Have himself
or would NOT Have been 'Allowed' by ARTHUR WRIGHT to Wrestle OUTSIDE WRYTONLAND or for Any
Other Promoter??!!
Well!!-4 Years Ago I Was Chatting to a Wrestler Who HACK Knows and-Without ANY Querying from Me-
THIS is what he told Me:-
COUNT BARTELLI came up During the Conversation:-
I Was Asked 'Did you Know That BARTELLI 3 Years After he was Unmasked by KENDO NAGASAKI in
1966 was again Wrestling under a HOOD'!!..... I said I didn't Know That!
'Yes'-The Narrative Continued- 'He Did Some Bouts for ERIC TAYLOR in 1969-Only This Time he Donned
a YELLOW MASK as Opposed to BARTELLI's RED MASK'!!
NOW-As I was Watching COUNT BARTELLI Wrestle at-Among Other Venues- WRYTON!! STADIUM in
The Early 1970's WITHOUT a MASK-This meant That he was STILL a WRYTON Man!!
So!-If This Story was TRUE?-And WHY wouldn't it be?-We Only Have 2 Explanations Don't We??
1 ARTHUR WRIGHT/WRYTONS Did NOT Know This and therefore BARTELLI WAS 'Moonlighting'...Or
2 ARTHUR WRIGHT/WRYTONS DID Know and BARTELLI Wrestled for ERIC TAYLOR and did so with his
'Blessing'!
Although This Information is Only 'Hearsay'-I Have NO Reason to Disbelieve it!!-
Especially as Other Stuff 'Confided' in Me by This Wrestler- I could Corroborate Elsewhere!!
Over to MR. HACK-as This 'Snippet' Seems to Somewhat Undermine his Theory Regarding whether
BARTELLI Wrestled OUTSIDE of WRYTON either MASKED or Unmasked!!
The THICK PLOTTENS!!
MAIN MASK
In the preceding twenty years there had been 7,000 days. 3,000 wins seems very fair, wrestling 5 or 6 nights a week and drawing (etc) nearly half.
Aha, Main Mask is getting mischievous. On three counts no less. You really do have to watch these masked marauders.
Mischief one. As I've already repeated on the original thread it's a matter of balance, and on balance I don't think the 1950 sighting would be Bartelli. That hardly merits the label "convinced."
Mischief two. I haven't said that Arthur Wright wouldn't "allow" Bartelli to wrestle maskless, I'm sure Bartelli would make his own decisions. What I said was that the close personal and professional relationship of the two men meant it was very unlikely Bartelli would chose to work maskless unknown to Wright. That does leave open Anglo's suggestion that he went down to Southend with Arthur's blessing as a reconnaissance mission. Unlikely I think, but possible.
The third and biggest mischief. 1969 was a very different world from 1950. As Ron has got in first and alluded to, and I'm sure Main Mask was well aware of, in 1969 Bartelli had left Wryton and Joint Promotions and was one half of Bartley Promotions. So, yes he was working for Eric Taylor, Brian Dixon, and other opposition promoters. Whether he worked in a mask on some of those shows at that time I don't know - I did see him on a few independent shows around that time and he was certainly maskless then. Having been on television and well known it would seem odd. But then we can't rule something out because it's odd.
Here he is on a 1970 independent show with a young Brian Dixon as referee.
I don't think it was as simple as Moonlighting. 1969 plus or minus another year saw the advent of Bartley Promotions. I have not got the answer to what he was doing , but he was for sure doing something non Joint. I can find dozens of similar examples and for sure worked with Eric Taylor. Is this some unexplored part of Bartelli's career after the unmasking. At this point he had turned 45 , was probably rich by average standards and clearly not traveling far. Can't see why he would not just do what he fancied. I ask the question , did he get on TV after 1966 and the unmasking , but before this era. ( I think 7 times in 1966/67)
For sure it seems that Wryton had little hold on Bartelli at this time.
