Pallo was a great show wrestler who I enjoyed immensely. Those who actually know the business have often said that although a great showman Pallo was no great wrestler when compared to the likes of Colbeck, Dempsey, Riss, even McManus. I guess this throwaway comment was an attempt at legitimising his wrestling style ("they're all as useless as me"). Trouble is that those sharing the dressing room would not be fooled.
I wrestled mainly in North and Midlands, I leaned to wrestle at Manchester YMCA then on to other gyms that catered for professional wrestlers e.g. Panthers Gym, Wryton Stadium, Riley's. Many wrestlers, in my experience, could wrestle using. techniques learned at the types of gym mentioned. Standards varied but a bout with the likes of Jack Dempsey, Mel Riss etc, demontstrated the differences. Many wrestlers could wrestle very well; a minority could not. They tended to have short careers! Pallo was skilled and experienced and knew what he was doing. I personally met him in a couple of tag bouts. He was no Dempsey but he was a wrestler who could wrestle. Eddie Rose (Manchester)
