There is now an excellent match on You Tube from 1972 with school teacher Professional Wrestler Steve Best giving Jim Breaks a bloody nose. Not very often that ITV matches gave us blood
I can't remember if I have posted this before but, I saw Peter Rann v one of the Le Paques' and as he was standing over his downed opponent, Rann bent down, only for his oppo. to reach up and scratch him under the eye, I believe accidentally. Rann immediately became angry and started to set about the guy quite seriously. There was some blood under the eye, but quite innocuous really.
Tons of blood in the Aussie matches, mostly made with a blade with a semi-regular appearance on t.v. On occassion if it happened on Saturday's t.v. I would watch carefully to the mid-week repeat, to catch the blading, 'ah yes, he falls out of the ring, rolls under the ring and is bleeding on his re-appearance'! Just like that!
Peter Rann versus Kellet had some blood in 1972.This was a Wednesday night broadcast always deemed to be more realistic at the time

Spiros Arion vs Colin Joynson 1979. Arion hardway juices Joynson by busting his nose to a gusher. Started a riot that took Big Daddy to quell, caused all kinds of hell with the IBA and got Joynson such sympathy that he was never able to work as a heel again.
I wonder what the thousands of Greek fans who idolised good guy Spiro Down Under, would have thought had they seen that video, or one of him against New York idol Sammartino, whom the Greek also turned villain for?

He also tore apart Chief Jay Strongbow's headdress (Manny Fernandez did a rereun of this with Wahoo McDaniel in the AWA in 1988).
Wayne Bridges v Mighty John Quinn World title fight and not sure whether there was blood when Les Kellett fought Peter Rann. can not remember either venue
I remember that Reslo would often show footage of overseas matches and had a Fit Finlay vs Tony St. Clair cage match, from Germany, with both men busted open (from memory). I also remember being on holiday in Anglesey, late 80's or early 90's, and a Reslo show had a match from the USA/Puerto Rico featuring Abdullah the Butcher vs Carlos Colon, and it was just blood everywhere.
Back in the day there was a blood bath at Wembley Town Hall in a match between Les Kellet & Clayton Thompson. There was blood flying everywhere from our Les, including front row. This was wrestling was live and in black & white.
There is another match with Steve Best's tag partner Johnny Saint also giving Breaks a bloody nose a few months later in March 1973.It makes their match ten years later seem very bland,
It was a build up to a TV title bout

In the late eighties Welsh Channel Four had blood more often.Unfortunate most of us could not view it at the time
I remember Haystacks shedding blood when in with Nagasaki
Marvellous Mike Bennett, giving Danny Boy Collins a real tough time in the ring with a nose bleed to follow.
The prevalence of blading in later years gave bloody nose bouts a greater authenticity
