A Bob Anthony match from Paris in 1961 versus Rene Ben Chemoul is now on the same website as the Tommy Mann/Eric Taylor matches. He is introduced as an Australian.
In his case he has two other matches on You Tube both from 1980 and viewing these with a nineteen year gap he seems to join the long list of fighters deserved more exposure on TV in the UK
Also good to see on the other thread that he was wrestling in Barcelona in 1960
His TV appearances prior to 1980 were in the fifteen months between December 1960 and March 1962 including two versus Vassillios Mantopolous another wrestler who appeared in Paris in this era
Yes Bob worked quite a bit for Relwyskow and Wryton in 1959 and 1960, the last time I see him working for a northern promoter was February, 1961 for Bill Best in Liverpool. From then until June 1962 he only seems to have worked for Dale Martin, going to the independents in June, 1962.
Bob was an active member of The Wrestlers Alliance union in April and May 1962. The Daily Mirror reported that Bob had a number of bookings cancelled by Dale Martin as a result and so he had decided to leave and join the independents.
Stranglehold Part 5: The Wrestlers Alliance
Hi all. I have some very old Joint programmes from about 1960/61ish,perhaps even 1959 with Bob Anthoney on the bill. Mainly R&G proms. i think. can anyone else confirm this.
Regards to all. Ian P.
Possibly, though it's up to the promoters who they put on. When I spoke to Bob a couple of years ago about the possibility of writing a book he said that he had considered it but if he did write about his life that wrestling would play only a small part; the music and entertainment business was much more important to him.
Forever A Teenage Idol
Bob Anthony only worked for Paul Lincoln and the independents from June 1962 until December 1965. The rest of the time he was eligible for tv contests.
Some Lincoln wrestlers did appear on TV
Not possible since he worked for Lincoln.
