Hi I wonder if anyone can help me, my Grandad is Carl Dane (also wrestled as the outlaw) I am looking for any wrestling posters/programmes with either Carl Dane or The Outlaw on them, if anyone has any or info oh where I can get some I would be extremely grateful
Thanks Pete
I attended quite a few Jack Atherton shows at The Queen's Baths, Derby, in the early to mid 70s and the M.C. was always Jack Mawdesley and the referee always Emile Poilve.
During the period in question Kevin Cawley also wrestled as The Outlaw for (and often against) Jack Cassidy.
I've heard the name Mike Pritchard, particularly in connection with shows promoted by Max Crabtree, but the Carl Shultz I knew on Joint was Fred Hunt from St.Helens who, prior to getting the Wryton jobs, worked on the independents as Kurt Stein. I believe he was also an Outlaw.
If someone can tell me Peter's email address i can give him some dates of when he MC'D at derby
I can remember Carl Dane being the MC at the Kings Hall in Derby for Frank Woodhouse promotions, If I can find the programmes for which he was Mc I can send you the details. This was back in the md 70's
Did Carl Dane only work the Outlaw role for Jack Atherton?
Thanks Paul
Hack if I recall Eddie did a few with this guy he wasn't a Murphy if I recall correctly it was Mike
Carl did a fine job as the Outlaw he was credible and could wrestle as Steve says Jack Atherton used him as such which says a lot,on the bill in question I think it was indeed him.
I have a feeling Peter Curry also played the Outlaw and there would have been more. Still fancy the Chester bills as Carl Dane though.
They were still conjuring up Outlaws at the end of the 1970's
Maybe Paul can tell us about Norman Murphy.
The Outlaw I watched on the opposition late 1960s was very good. It could well have been Carl Dane but I wouldn't know would I?
Looks like the Avengers weren't masked as their names are given. Butcher Goodman is in the A-Z. I doubt if Dave Morgan was the one most of us knew and is in the A -Z. By then he was working mostly in Germany, I don't recall him working for the opposition and had no connection with the others in this tag.
Thank You for the reply about The Outlaw. Second question , Who was " The Avengers " , and was they masked ?
Well the clue cracking matches with John Allen should be enough to assume that this is Carl Dane as the Masked Outlaw. And if Paul Mitchell is reading no doubt he can confirm.
Did he wear a mask as " The Outlaw " ?
I know he , in his words...had some cracking matches with John Allan, he enjoyed working with him, He was born in South Elmsall near Doncaster
Yes I think that would account for it as Van Dyke goes back into the 1940's.
I bet I have a lot of bills with him as the Outlaw , but there were so many that did him.
He never wrestled as Carl van Dyke, I think he was the Outlaw from around 67-75, and never really appeared much further south than the midlands
I wondered about Carl van Dyke does any one know him.
Hello Pete. Thanks for posting. Your Grandad was a regular worker, especially in the north and midlands, in the 1960s. One of those important men who made the business works. Do you have any memories of him you can share with us. Presumably you've seen his entry on Heritage, which with your help we could expand.
