In the 50s 60s more so and 70s wrestling had regular and sporadic fans who were big names in their field,I met quite a large number below are two who were regulars. Has anyone one got memories we will see how it goes and I'll give my full list.
Leslie crowther loved the atmosphere envied the pulling power and was vocal and enjoyed all the bouts for different reasons.
Colin bean I wondered when you'd spot that Anglo was a believer and loved the sheer theatre obviously in the air in his Wigan high rise.
Bessie Braddock, famously a Liverpool Stadium fan and present at the RAH royal show in 1963.
Also seem to remember Max By grave mentioned as a fan.
Freddie Flintoff did some training to be a pro wrestler but found it very difficult and turned briefly to Boxing instead
Haha, a Snakepit link to Dad's Army, then!
Dame Mary Rand at her peak of 1966 fame was a wrestling fan. Nice when sports people embrace wrestling.
Years ago we explored the mystery of Geoff Hurst who, in 1968, was billed in TV Times as the special guest on the tv wrestling. None of us could remember him appearing. So we contacted him, were ignored, and then insisted and got a reply from a third party say Sir Geoff knew nothing about it. All very odd, and I remain convinced there's no smoke without fire.
Sir Percy Shaw, inventor of cat's eyes. Featured in a tv documentary.
Just thinking in general as you mention the theatre of it all, Paul. I think I'll start a new thread...
I may be getting mixed up here, because it was all a long time ago, but seem to think that Cilla Black was a fan.
Thora Hird used to go to the Met in the Edgware Road on a Saturday and have a drink with Paul & Co afterwards
Jackie Milburn was a regular at St James Hall after he retired and worked as a football reporter
