Oh Those Promoters!!- Always Slippery with Dubious Publicity!!-Always Designed to 'Dupe'
the Poor Paying Punters!- SO 'Creative' with Their 'Claims' and Pronouncements'!!
Just HOW MANY Doctor Deaths and Masked Marvels did We get 'Served-Up'??-Probably
Hundreds Down The Years!!
A Wrestler Told Me at a Reunion that For Example-When it Came to 'Champions'-Promoters
would put A Title Belt round the waist of ANY Wrestler for a Five Minute Publicity Shot-and Then
'Retrieve' This Belt!!-As The Particular Wrestler WASN'T Really The 'Official' Champion!!
KENT WALTON-In Commentary- would Slip in 'Claims' about a Wrestler being a FORMER
Champion-Like Stating PETER SZAKACS was a Former BRITISH WELTERWEIGHT Title
Holder!?#-For Which Statement I've Never Seen ANY Proof-and he's NOT Listed at all in Lists
of Champions!!- Did They Really Think That Wrestling Fan's were ALL Completely 'NAIVE'??
Here Below is a PRIME Example of This 'Devious' Practise!!
MICK MCMICHAEL Sporting a MOUNTEVANS Title Belt!!-But WHICH One?-NOT MIDDLEWEIGHT
-as BRIAN MAXINE has Always had his!!
To The Very Best of My Knowledge-MICK MCMICHAEL NEVER Held a BRITISH Title!- Certainly
NOT WELTERWEIGHT!-He's NOT Listed in any Title Rundown Lists!!
So-EVEN Though-Arguably he was Good Enough to Be One-MCMICHAEL wasn't EVER a Belt
Holder!!- Yet Here he is Below Wearing One!!
They 'Gave' it to CYANIDE SID COOPER Once in MAY 1985 For Three Months but Never to MICK!!
Oh Those Promoters!!
MAIN MASK
Are your 32 DDs all UK workers? It would be interesting to see them and see if we could add more.
I have a hobby of finding out the Masked wrestlers real names , and in my records , i have 32 different Dr. Death's from around the world. As for Masked Marvels, i have 121 listed from around the world . The first Masked Marvel was in 1915.
To have the wrestlers alongsde Henery Cooper was so important at the time.
"Did They Really Think That Wrestling Fan's were ALL Completely 'NAIVE'??"
Clearly yes. The logic probably was that "if they're foolish enough to believe what they see in the groin, they'll believe anything."
This is what has always remained a challenge for wrestlers when they talk to us. On the one hand they don't know how much we know. Like dutiful Wayne Brdges, some go to great lengths to maintain the omerta and not let any cats out of the bag.
But on the other, they have the difficult task of gaugng how much we believe. Hence the best solution is often to remain silent. They can't risk beng the ones to burst our bubble of excitement.
I often felt that being an ardent autograph collector marked me out to the wrestlers as being 100% gullible. This is why I have such fond 1971 memories of Mucky Mal Kirk who clearly read me correctly and asked what I thought of his work.
Hi MM, that is a cropped image. Steve Clements & Mick McMichael were billed as tag team champions after wrestling in Spain. They had a few publicity photos made holding trophies and wearing British belts. There's one of them posed together but the belts don't match. See below:
I've certainly heard wrestlers, some famous champions, say they've been told to out a belt on, have your photo taken, hand it back it's going in the boot of my car.
I honestly believe that most of the time the person who was running the show on the night brought the belt with them, the only exception was with a wrestler whom they trusted implicitly. Working night after night I wonder how many times a belt would have been forgotten, by a wrestler, or hidden by a rival, it's certainly happened elsewhere.
"The Sawn-Off Hercules"....Much better than "Popular"
