If you're keeping Clay and Bert Royal in the Round Robin we could try Eric Taylor, another technician but could withstand the whirlwind of Rocco better than Clay. Or if we want fun let's try Kellett in the mix.
As this was pro wrestling he would have faired just how the promoters wanted. I think a match against Jones or Finlay could have worked, but I can't see a match with Rocco working well. Unless Rocco was in his early days I don't think he would have allowed Clay's technical skills to show. Jones and Finlay could be more disciplined and responded more appropriately to Clays technical skills,
Great reply Hack, and logical. I never thought about the promoters input which was an error on my part. I loved to watch Rocco, a human fireball of energy but agree the technical finesse of both Jones & Finlay may have suited Clay Thomson better. In a fantasy round robin tournament i would love to see the 4 afore mentioned along with perhaps Bert Royal competing (other suggestions welcome ?).
Brian Maxine I could take or leave as a wrestler but he knew how to work a crowd, Clayton was an excellent wrestler but I have always believed apart from one or two exceptions that the heels brought more people through the doors than the faces.
I was too young to remember Clayton Thomson but viewing the few repeats of his contests on The Wrestling Chanel and subsequently youtube i realise what i had missed. He looked a terrific wrestler and if he did appear on the small screen on 60 occasions it made me wish i had seen every contest. Do you all think Brian Maxine was a worthy successor to Thomson or was it simply that Maxine was a bigger crowd puller and would make more money for the promoters? After all it was Max Crabtree who once stated that there were some tremendous wrestlers out there but they couldn't draw at the box office. I have no beef with Brian Maxine as champion, i admired him, but Clayton Thomson seemed to be in a class of his own

How do readers think Clayton Thompson would have faired against the next generation Rocco, Jones & Finlay?
It always seemed legit impressive when Walton gave us the long period since he last lost to a pinfall
Clayton always seemed a very good technical wrestler but he did lack flair. From a marketing point of view Maxine was on another planet.

He was dear friends with Geoff Portz and they remained as such into their elder years.
