One of my Favourite Wrestlers in the WELTERWEIGHT Division was JACK DEMPSEY!
Like TOMMY MANN in the Division above-I saw JACK as a Rugged,Dour and Solid
Wrestler with All the Credentials to be a Great Champion-which he was!
Now in the 1950's and 1960's DEMPSEY had two 'Thorns' in his side with regard to his
Tenure as Title Holder!-The First of these was the Champion before him who he doggedly
pursued-TONY LAWRENCE-A Great Agile and Skilful Wrestler from Whom he finally
managed to Wrest the Title from in 1953!
The Second of these proved much more of a 'Problem' to DEMPSEY when it came to
Holding onto his Belt!-This Man was an Exceptionally Skilful Wrestler who turned out to be
a Major Threat and Challenge to JACK and Who 'wouldn't go away'!
CLIFF BELSHAW-Sometimes Billed as BEAUMONT took the BRITISH WELTERWEIGHT
Title off DEMPSEY and then had the Audacity to keep hold of it!-The Reign of BELSHAW
as Champion neatly cut the Longevity and Tenure of JACK into two!
CLIFF Won the Title from DEMPSEY in 1959-thus beginning an almighty Struggle over
this Belt!-Below I Share some of BELSHAW's Battles during his Championship Reign-
Starting with a Title Defence for the New Champion against either BRIAN BURKE or
Future Title Holder-ALAN DENNISON!-Pearl Harbour Day 1959!!....

thanks for making this post. champion and belt holder. fair enough. champion in which organization? I am assuming not JP. likely BWF? any ideas? and let's not forget every single GOLD BELT MATTERS
My dad used to tell me about his uncle being a very successful wrestler back before I was born (1966).
His name (and ours) is Belshaw. I never met the guy but I think he retired in Wigan, Lancashire at least for some time.
Pallo rated Cliff as a perfect opponent however old Jack moaned he always worked stiff and getting of bed next morning reminded you of
Has anyone heard of Allan Whitfield from Newcastle in 1961?
Yes I think it was Cliff Saxo.
Was it Cliff, or one of his brothers, that Adrian Street mentioned in his books (I think it was Cliff), where he said something along the lines of "if he was in a mood, he would give you nothing", and I think he nick-named him, "stiff Cliff", because you certainly were not going to beat him in a real contest, so you had to let him dictate the match, because he would just do it anyway, whether you liked it or not.
Cliff Belshaw was the best welterweight I ever saw.
I saw him wrestle on a couple of occasions as Cliff Beaumont. He was one of the most skilful, technical wrestlers I ever saw. Unfortunately he was rather lacking in charisma which I believed proved a handicap. Nevertheless he had a long career and provided wrestling enthusiasts with a good deal of pleasure.
Correct Bernard
I have the feeling that Cliff Belshaw and Terrance Ricardo were related.
Both Beaumont brothers?
I think that December 29 card is 1947.
Next Champion CLIFF in Action against LES STENT in Late 1958!
COUNT BARTELLI on this Bill!!
