Maybe our friend the Ost is too modest to share this information due to the part he played in the presentation.
Recently the Auckland Library made a video on the Dave Cameron Boxing & Wrestling Collection, which they hold in their Special Collections.
The Ost was asked to present the collection.
Well done Ost. You were great.
Two episodes of "Wrestling from Great Britain" aired here in 1965. If the tapes remained in NZ they haven't been found yet. I have contacted the NZ film & TV archive to keep an eye out for them. NZ-produced TV wrestling didn't regularly air until 1975.
Great find, Hack, we would never have known.
Fascinating that there could be such interest in wrestling on the other side of the world. So I'm wondering about sixties tv wrestling in New Zealand. Did they show recordings of ITV shows, as screened in Africa and the Middle East? Or was there a fully fledged local scene - in which case who was the local Kent Walton?
I have a question: In Dave's collection was there any image of the original Lord Mount Evans Belt from the early 50s? Holders were such wrestlers as Baldwin, Colbeck and Busfield. Thanks.
Congratulations to all concerned (including the at first, overwhelmed curator) and all in the cause of wrestling and those who follow the game!
That's brilliant Ost. I do like the old names for the holds and the ilustrations.
Great stuff, fame at last for The Ost!, well done Steve, you are a natural on camera, they will be giving you your own TV show next!
Thanks Hack. There are British scrapbooks and photo albums in the collection (a lot of the contents of those I share on here). This video was intended for wider appeal so it focuses on items more relevant to NZ and less on the UK.
