another good example of such "catch" that was not an actual Lancashire catch wrestling, but rather a re-branded all-in wrestling. the term of "catch wrestling" was and still is abused more than anything else in pro wrestling history. often time you hear about "catch" here and there and nowadays almost everywhere. and NONE of that is anyhow related to Lancashire wrestling. just some random former MMA people capitalizing on pro wrestling history. that is precisely what it is.
Came across a very good report of the background to the Reuben Wright match. if the report back home is true he arranged the whole thing with all the kayfabe and totally lost out.
of course I do know all that, sorry but NO, my friend this is what you are showing has NOTHING to do with Lancashire/English pro catch wrestling. this is a brand of pro wrestling which was first tried in Australia by H. Irslinger and Co. around 1926-27, who were inspired by the "american style" (a mix of euro british and japanese schools of pro wrestling), who later brought it to UK, around 1930. where it was commonly known as all-in, simply because in England everyone knew that IT IS NOT an actual Lancashire/English catch pro wrestling, they called it all-in in England because of that, because this new brand of pro wrestling was a mix of different wrestling cultures. in the mid and late 1930s they also called this kind of pro wrestling the "XX c catch as catch can", and is not anyhow different from all in wrestling, so to say NOT an actual catch pro wrestling. many pseudo-researchers and their followers all around the world capitalize on this kind of desinformation, read fake news. it is essential part of their agenda, narrative...or plain propaganda, their names are all well known. and they are nothing but wrestling history frauds.
I didn't say any of those things or make any of those connections to earlier styles.
You wrote that "which means that this show-match was "won/lost" on pinfalls ONLY. And that it was NOT a typical for that era all-in wrestling show-match."
The rules printed in programme state that the bout could be won by submission. And by penalty falls.
I know that it's all a work and that they can write anything on a piece of paper. If you want to get on your soap box about "modern catch" or MMA or whatever, go for your life. I was responding to what you wrote.
Looks pretty clear to me that he did not come to take on all comers and of course it was not a real shoot. In 1938 Assirati and Oakeley were not active and I don't think Sexton was here. Max Krauser had gone. Doug Clark could have been a possibility as champion. Pojello liked to pick his opponents. In the main he was not that heavy , but I guess as veterans you need to work with good safe workers. I think the truth is that when you got these guys together , a series of stalemates was often the case. The other glaring possibility was Jack Sherry. Again him and Krauser had been matched and it was a draw even after extra time.
Anaconda was a Safe pair of Hands. Just my opinion.
---and of course it was not a real shoot---. Period. I think we have MMA people and their pro wrestling fantasies arriving in packs to this forum. Stupidity is rampant!
Looks to me like a tour of publicity and hand picked money making moments. Through the year he did catch exhibitions with Anaconda for TV and also Pergantes. THis bill with Anaconda as big as anything. Similar used Modrich as well.
Bouts with Tim Estelle and Reuben Wright for Empire Championship were also glossed up.
yes of course, and they called it FREESTYLE too. but as you noticed the so-called "catchers" of the former MMA brotherhood are missing out to win on knockouts. why? now this is very simple. because in their "discipline" (I mean their actual thing not a fake catch they teach, that one never existed, lol) they do not teach how to knockout opponent using exclusively "fair wrestling" tools, such as lifting and throwing. they all are not efficient in throwing. they do not know how to bodyslam an opponent.

Underwhelming.
He also had a TV match versus Percy Foster of South Africa in 1938
His "big" match was against American Reuben Wright at the Royal Albert Hall. But was Wright such a big deal? Not that I know.
Then there was his Empire match with Time Estelle broadcast by the BBC. Time Estelle? Not exactly a household name.
Names like Bert Assiirati, Karl Pojello, Atholl Oakeley,Frank Sexton. Earl would have been a match for all of them.
big names, like who?
