I am interested to know if anyone has any information concerning Ed Bright, who often wrestled with the prefix Haystacks, Strangler, Tiger. I even recall him being billed with typical Paul Lincoln inventiveness as the "fighting farmer" from Billericay. Perhaps a clue?
I remember him wrestling in Lincoln promoted knockout tournaments in the 1960's, always playing the heel and always defeated or disqualified in the opening contest against a blue eye. At this time he appeared quite ancient and had obviously been around for some time .It would be fascinating to know more.
I saw him wrestle twice for Paul Lincoln in the early 1960s, billed as The Beast. As suggested, an effective heel, and not in the first flush of youth.
Great to see Ed Bright included. I was fascinated to see him described as the Southern Area Heavyweight champion as I never saw him win although this was
very much in the latter stages of his career. As far as being an amateur heavyweight
champion-who knows? At least he did probably hail from Essex but the fighting farmer from Billericay must pose a question.
There's still a scarcity of information, we would like know. Nonetheless, we have today added our tribute to Ed Bright in Personality Parade, one of seven additions today.
The First Haystacks
Thank you all for the information provided which has been most interesting.I wonder if the referee in that excellent video posted by Hack is Tiny Carr?
18th December 1952
He's also the man Shirley Crabtree beat for the BWF heavyweight title in 1960. I've no idea if he had previously won the belt.
From an Atholl Oakeley programme:
I saw him just the once. It would have been 1966 I think, a Fred Woolley/Danny Flynn show. I can't remember the opponent. As you say Ballymoss he did look his age, but it wasn't a bad match as far as I recall. He's been around for years, working for Oakeley. Here he is in 1952 wrestling Kyrt Zehe at the Royal Albert Hall
Seems to be an Independent worker. Big guy who went in with Assirati.
Hi BALLYMOSS!-Here's TIGER for Starters-I'll have more and will get back on this!
