I was fortunate to meet and chat with Johnny Palance at the Rhyl wrestling show on Tuesday night.
He was quite emotional at the passing of his friend Eddie who he had kept in touch with in recent years.
Johnny and Eddie both lived in North Wales, although apparently Eddie went back to Ireland for his final days.
Johnny mentioned that he had said to Eddie that it was strange how they used to beat the hell (Johnny used a different word) out of each other and now they were the best of friends!
The late Eddie Hamill died otherwise The famous Kung Fu in shades of David Carridine in TV Series.
The Great contest against Mick McManus at Centre Hall Woking Surrey & he told Kung Fu(Get That Mask off)McManus won by submission in the 5th round on Wednesday April 21st 1976 ITV World of Sport with commentator Kent Walton and two years later in 1978 when Kendo Nagasaki with dark specs thrown McManus out of the ring in Fairfield Halls Croydon and Mike Judd,The M.C told everybody go back to the seats in the 4th round.
The Great Tag Team with Pete Roberts as The Kung Fu Fighters against Johnny Kincaid & Dave(Soul Man Brother)Bond on Tuesday October 4th 1977 in Croydon and in the 3rd final session referee Max Ward sent Kincaid & Bond back into the dressing room and The Kung Fu Fighters won the bout.
The Great Battles against the public enemy number 1 the infamous Jim Breaks at Southport in Lancashire and Breaks sent out back to the dressing room in 1986.
The Great icon of Professional Wrestling is the late Eddie Hamill otherwise the famous Kung Fu.
Eddie was a breath of fresh air and one of the few newcomers who excited me in the 1970s. It wasn't just the rarity of a clean masked man but also his exceptional talent. He was always approachable and talkative at the Reunions, and modest for a man of such talent.
I saw Eddie (Kung Fu) wrestle live once, at my local hall in Crewe in April 1978, against Mark Rocco. It was a great bout, possibly the best bout that I saw live, they were both so fast. It is very sad to realise that they have both passed away now.
Eddie set up his own Kung Fu website about 20 years ago and it was a very interesting website to look at. He had one section where he wrote a few amusing stories from his days as a wrestler and I remember that they were genuinely funny stories.
Very, very sad news. I loved his run at Liverpool Stadium for Brian Dixon. I met him at one of the Kent reunions and he was so friendly. He used to come to the summer season wrestling shows at Rhyl Town Hall and it was good to see him looking well and happy
Very sad news, I was in touch with him by email, over the years, when he had his own web site, telling a few funny stories about the old days. He sent me a copy of the "Best of ITV Wrestling" DVD, when it came out, as he had been sent a few copies.
