Entrance music wasn't really a thing in my day. A rarity. The first time I came across it was around 1965/6. It was the entrance of The Undertaker (the original, not the masked pair. The Undertaker and his assistant carried a full sized coffin to the ring to the tune of the Funeral March (naturally). A bit later I saw Terry McDonald (of Manchester) enter to Scotland the Brave (of course).
That was about it. Probably a few in the 1970s after Max took over, but none to remember.
My questions:
What was your earliest experience of entrance music?
Did you have a favourite?
Do you think it added anything to the show?
John Quinn entered the ring to 'The Mighty Quinn' by Manfred Mann. I remember Giant Haystacks using 'Another One Bites The Dust' by Queen. By 1993, nearly everyone used entrance music. Dale Broughton / Preston used 'The Best' by Tina Turner and, for some reason, I got sent out to 'Twilight Zone' by 2 Unlimited.
In The Late 1970's of course KENDO NAGASAKI Entered The Ring
To KENDO's THEME!! Pretty Cool!!
MAIN MASK
Ron
You beat me to it. It was Entry at Belle Vue -used certainly for Jack Pye
Great comment Norfolk Snake. I think this topic is one in which 1980s fans could teach us oldies a thing or two.
Ron, so that was to open the show? No memories of individual wrestlers.
Anglo Italian mentions technical issues. I remember for the Terry McDonald entry we could hear the crackle of needle on record player for what seemed like ages before the music started.
Had it to open Belle Vue , late 60's maybe earlier. I think it was Enter the Gladiators.
I think Big Daddy's "We Shall Not Be Moved" was my first and only. Sometimes there was some generic music. But it was the age of ghetto blasters and there were invariably cock-ups on the technical front before some crackly music finally screeched its way out. I remember even at the Royal Albert Hall the music was amateurish.
Big Daddy and We Shall Not Be Moved springs to mind. Mighty Quinn by Manfred Man for Big John, Belfast by Boney M for Fit Finlay and Japanese Boy for Fuji Yamada were all regulars in the 80s, but the one in the halls that always set the tone for what was to come was TNT by AC DC when Rollerball Rocco was coming in - it had the perfect lyrics and rock sound that seemed to set both the crowd and Rocco alight before the match began. I still think of Rocco even now when I here that riff....
