In this Country Top Career MASKED WRESTLERS mostly did their utmost to avoid
each other especially if there 'Could be NO Draw' as it usually meant one of them had to go!!
Many Fans were NOT aware however that when they did occasionally meet-they 'knew'
each other a lot better than was thought!!
For example THE OUTLAW Famously defeated and Unmasked THE ZEBRA KID in
December 1967 at KINGS HALL BELLE VUE in front of a sell-out Crowd.....BUT what is
much less well known is that these Top HOODED Matmen had fought against one another
before but WITHOUT the MASKS!!
One such Encounter took place at BRISTOL late one December when a 5 x 10 Minute
Rounder between GORDON NELSON and GEORGE BOLLAS ended in Draw!!!!
Programme to follow!
Earlier in 1967-this time MASKED- They did it all again at NEW ST.JAMES HALL NEWCASTLE!!-Flyer to follow!
So we see EVEN MASKED MEN knew the 'Inside of the Ring' about each other a lot
more than it seemed!!
MAIN MASK
Did Dale Martin programmes list the matches in the order of the event? I like the "Specially appointed" referee and MC. Credit to DM for a positive spin on a lack of planning.
Oh, was that 1960? I hadn't realised. Still interesting, though.
Main Mask, that Bollas v Nelson bill is one of the most astonishing finds ever on our site!
Oh to know the circumstances of what was going on.
For anyone who is interested in results, the bouts on that last bill finished as follows:-
The Outlaw beat The Zebra Kid disqualified
Gwynne Davies 2-1 John Cox
Jimmy Breaks beat Alan Dennison Disqualified
Jimmy Savile stopped Chic Purvey.
And before any asks, no I was not there, I was using Ray's excellent results.
Were he still alive today, it would be Jimmy Savile who would have to compete in a mask.
