Few days ago, I made a post on Lewis "winning a title belt". I tried to identify that trophy. The only one I could find is dated back to 1953, Portsmouth Jim Smith's Promotion. All the details below.
Thanks Ron, as always very informative. My appreciation. If Jim Lewis was a promoter of that "world championship" event, basically he awarded "belt and title" to himself and wasn't associated with any organization JP or BWF. Is that right?
The Roster that you see at Platt Fields all wrestled in nightclubs. I think Jim Lewis had something to do with running wrestling at the Devonshire Club in Salford. I bet some of them were friends with Acker Bilk.
Jim Lewis trained Jimmy Saville and they worked there at the Dev for Savilles debut.
Wrestling and showbiz truly were one and the same.
Special thoughts are with us for Henri Pierlot on that bill wrestling Hans Streiger.
Yes. He seemed widely billed as world champion for many independents, he was world champion in the second half of the 1960s when I saw him for the WFGB. And that is "world champion." I doubt if Joint would ever let him be a champion. He did wrestle for them but must have had a stormy relationship at times because he was involved in setting up one of the wrestlers unions which Joint would not recognise.
Ron, THANK YOU SO MUCH, Platt Fields Park 1962, wow, speechless. Sure I didn't know who Acker Bilk was. So it was Welterweight Eliminations Challenge with the historical belt at stake, wow again !!!
Thanks Hack, THE MOST CHERISHED OBJECT in fact has a great value - it is historical belt known as famous Jack Alker Belt. Alker, Billy Beech Sr, Milla, Woolley.
Yes Typical of the Indy's......the "WORLD" was very small.

Thanks Ron. Was Coverdale fighting for Lewis in 1962?
I thought that he was a down south man by then.
Hi Hack and Ron. Anyone know who played Le Ghoul on this latest bill please?

Also I think the independents used the same belt to represent different titles; In 1960 you had:
Gentleman Jim Lewis - World Welterweight champion Fred Woolley - British Welterweight champion
Jack Taylor - European Lightweight champion (defending the title against Cliffe Milla. Milla defends "title" in 1965)
Use the photos of each sparingly and none the wiser.
Wow, the Acker Bilk Golden Bowler (a golden bowler hat, I assume?) tournament. Now i've seen and read it all.

In 1962 Jim Lewis was Welterweight World Champ in BWF? Is that correct?

Good one Bernard. Funny but most likely true.
In the second half of the 1960s I watched Jim on the independents billed as World Welterweight Champion for what it's worth (which isn't much).
A figment of someone's imagination, I think.
Ron, what is - quarter semi-final of the World's Professional Wrestling Title?
