With sadness I report just hearing from Gerry's friend, William,
"It is with great sadness and regret I have to inform you that Gerry passed away peacefully this morning.
The sport is thus deprived of a great and colourful character and I of a kind and dear friend."
Thinking of Gerry Today.
Gerry's family has thanked Heritage members for their kind words at this time of sadness.
Gerry's funeral will be at Beetham Hall Crematorium, Beetham, Milnthorpe, Cumbria, LA7 7BQ on Tuesday 27th August at 12.30pm. Beetham Hall is on the left of the A6, just 10 - 15 minutes or so north of leaving the M6 at J35 (Carnforth).
RIP Gerry, learning about him & His career showcased the many virtues of this site.
That's a fantastic anecdote William , maybe Hack should add it to the Iron man of the Lakes write up.
The most Powerful looking man in this picture was Gerry Hoggarth 1950 Quernmore Champion taken at Lancaster lads Club.
One before my time so I have no recollection to fall back on. Total respect to anyone involved with this great sport so RIP Gerry, I can see you'll be missed.
RIP. To a great man, who served our sport well.
Dreadful news.RIP Gerry.
sad, sad, sad news, rest in peace great champion.
This is very sad news and condolences to Gerry's loved ones on their loss.
Our "discovery" of Gerry gave a purpose to the very existence of this site. With Members Rony and "Beancounter" leading the way, it was the type of project we had hoped would develop when Wrestling Heritage started, a project guided by Members through their own interests and knowledge.
I really enjoyed discovering Gerry from afar, and knowing he was still with us just made it great.
RIP
Sad News RIP Gerry
Occasionally, rarely in fact, the death of someone you've never encountered makes an impact. Such is the case with Gerry. With his loss Wrestling Heritage has lost a friend. Thanks to William we felt privileged to reassure Gerry he had not been forgotten. He was proud to receive the Iron Man of the Lakes name and the Award from the Blackpool Reunion. To be honest ten years ago Gerry Hoggarth was just a name I'd seen on the old bills. We thank William for setting us off on a search in which William led the way, Ron pursued with enthusiasm whilst I and the rest of us just enjoyed the incredible journey. Thank you William and Ron. Thank you Gerry.
Sad news indeed.
RIP Gerry
a sad day RIP Gerry
RIP, sad news.
Really sad news and I was so inspired when I read Gerry's story that I made it a mission to always look out for Bills with Gerry On.
I found a few along the way and William took them for Gerry to look at. All part of the bond that Gerry and Wrestling Heritage had.
Wonderful man and Wonderful story............RIP
